The Fellow of Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA) designation is granted to members who have rendered exceptional service to the profession, or whose achievements in their careers, the community or in the profession have earned them distinction and brought honour to the profession.
The Chartered Professional Accountants of Prince Edward Island is pleased to recognize the contributions to the profession and community by Tanya O'Brien, FCPA, CA.
Tanya began her career in public accounting, joining the firm Ferris MacPherson Chartered Accountants (who later merged with Deloitte and Touche Chartered Accountants) directly out of university; she articled with them in acquiring the designation of Chartered Accountant.
After seven years, she moved on from public accounting to join Dyne Holdings Limited as Financial Controller and was appointed to Vice President during her tenure. She oversaw the development & construction of The Holman Grand Hotel, the Homburg Financial Office Tower and the Northumberland Condominiums project. Under her guidance, the company moved from a private to a public company and eventually to a Real Estate Investment Trust.
Tanya's commitment to the profession is evidenced by her volunteerism, having been actively involved on professional boards and committees since 1994, when she first joined the ICAPEI Board of directors, moving to president in 1998. She has served on local, regional and national committees. As CEO, she oversaw the unification of the legacy bodies in 2015. Her situation is unique in that, while she is employed by CPA Prince Edward Island, she is the only professional CPA on staff for the organization - which means she has a level of commitment to serve on numerous national committees not experienced by any other provincial CPA CEO. Her dedication is acknowledged by her colleagues across the country; she is highly regarded by all as a reliable and sensible partner, hardworking and highly collaborative. Her record of service at the national and regional level is significant, visible, and lasting, and it reflects the very best of our profession.
Outside the profession, Tanya is dedicated to service in the community, overseeing a local Income Tax Clinic, serving as treasurer for the Gold Cup and Saucer Parade, and has contributed in various areas with the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, the Colonel Gray High School Foundation, Downtown Charlottetown Inc., the Charlottetown Figure Skating Club and Figure Skating PEI.
Exemplifying the qualities the Fellowship is intended to recognize: sustained leadership, professional excellence and meaningful service to the profession, CPAPEI is pleased to recognize Tanya with the title of Fellow.
Congratulations Tanya!
Tanya will be formally presented with her Award at the 2026 Convocation and Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall. Event tickets are now available for purchase on our website.
